JAKARTA – The social media network Twitter is currently in the public spotlight because of their vulnerable security issues. Hackers can break into some of the world’s famous accounts.
Among them are Bill Gates, Elon Musk and former President of the United States (US) Barack Obama. Obama’s account suddenly tweeted a promotion of cryptocurrency scams.
The social media account hacker can perform the action in any way. For that, in order not to become a victim of hacking, here’s how to secure a Twitter account from hackers’ ignorant hands, quoted from CNET, Sunday, July 19.
Two-factor authentication
Even though you thought that password used already feels safe, in fact you won’t be able to do anything when hackers manage to find out the password you are using.
For that, you need to turn on two-factor authentication. The trick is to click Settings and Privacy on your Twitter account, then click Account, then select Security.
A choice of two-factor authentication or password reset protection will appear. Choose two-factor authentication, then click Text Message or Authetication App.
If you choose Text Message then you must use a cellphone number to secure your account, and if you choose Authentication App then you must connect the authentication application that is downloaded first on the app store.
Don’t use passwords that are easy to guess
Usually because they don’t want to be complicated, many people like to choose arbitrarily password to end using a password from the birthday number or date of birth. This is sometimes what causes your account to be easily hacked hackers.
The tip, use a unique and strong password such as mixing letters and numbers. So it is not easy for hackers to guess password your Twitter account.
Remember not to use any third party applications
When you use third-party applications (such as social media post scheduler), you have to be careful. Because this application requires access to your account. Make sure you are using a legitimate application to gain access. And be sure to read the details of what specific apps want access to.
Some apps will only require permissions such as the ability to read and post content. So hopefully you can always read the warning before granting access.
Beware of phishing messages
As said, there are many hackers’ loopholes that can trick victims. One of them is by sending a message claiming to be from the application itself.
Usually they will send a message saying that there is something to fix or is suspicious about the activity on your account, so you will need to re-enter your password to fix it.
Avoid this if you don’t want something unwanted on your account. Because no service or technology company will ask you to enter your password or repeat your password via email, text or phone call. Be careful because this has taken many victims.
Turn off direct messaging on Twitter
You can disable the Receive Direct Message option from within the Settings Menu. This will prevent any account you don’t follow from sending you DMs.
Report suspicious accounts
If you feel that someone is bothering you or trying to stalk you on Twitter while at the same time violating the Twitter Rules, you must report that person. You can report abusive behavior directly from a tweet, profile, Direct Message or filling out Twitter web forms.
